Procter & Gamble premiered the documentary, Imagine a Future, on Sunday April 21st, in association with the Tribeca Film Institute in New York City. The film intends to bring P&G’s African-American consumer campaign, My Black is Beautiful (MBIB), to the masses.

UNCF, the nation’s largest minority education organization, and the non-profit ”Black Girls Rock!’ partnered with P&G to host the screening of the film. It examines beauty and self-esteem issues that challenge black women and girls.

“As a natural evolution of the MBIB mission, we were happy to work with UNCF and Black Girls Rock! to launch the Imagine a Future initiative last year, and we are excited to take our work a step further by providing the community with a documentary that is both powerful and informative,” said Lauren Hoenig, associate marketing director, NA Media and Multicultural Marketing, P&G.

Hoenig continues, “Our hope is that this documentary will aid in altering the current perceptions, conversations and societal implications that come with negative self-image and low self-esteem of young black girls.”

The documentary is directed and produced by Lisa Cortés, who was previously nominated for an Academy-Award nominee for Precious. It was also directed by Shola Lynch, known for Free Angela Davis and All Political Prisoners. Beverly Bond, founder of ‘Black Girls Rock!’, celebrity DJ and philanthropist, is the executive producer.

Imagine a Future will air on BET on July 5, 2013 at 10 PM ET/9 PM CT and on Centric on July 6th at 9 PM ET/8 PM CT. The film will also be available for online viewing on the My Black is Beautiful YouTube channel.
